If you’ve been following along, you know August 25th was one of my hardest days in this single journey. But I have been leaning on some scriptures. Today, I want to share some of the Bible verses I’m meditating on in this season, starting with the first one He gave me.
Time and Chance
The first one I got while reading my Bible is Ecclesiastes 9:11: “I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all.”
It just tells me that sometimes I look at myself and think, okay, maybe I’m not good enough, I’m not beautiful enough, I’m not thin enough, I’m just not enough, and that’s why I can’t find my spouse, or find the kind of Christian person I’m looking for. That person has a type, and maybe I’m not that type, and maybe that’s why I’m not married. But the Bible is saying here that it’s actually not about what you physically possess, not about your wisdom or your looks. Time and chance happen to us all.
I remember reading a devotional from Joseph Prince where he talked about how time and chance happen. He said that chance happens on your knees while you’re praying to God, so when you pray to God, He creates that opportunity, that chance, for you to be able to meet who you need to meet and to be where you should be.
So I translate that to mean that meeting somebody isn’t based on my own works. I’ll be honest: I’ve done some stuff. I’ve gone to certain places, tried to look a certain way, not been intentional about being present somewhere, looking at men and thinking, okay, does this person qualify. But what I’m learning is that it’s not really how it works. You can do all of that, but you still need to be guided by God.
So that’s one of the Bible verses God gave me. I also want to share a few other verses, and I hope these encourage you and that you meditate on them regularly, whatever season you’re in. If you’re in a single season too, I hope God speaks to you through these.

- Psalm 5:12 “For thou, LORD, wilt bless the righteous; with favour wilt thou compass him as with a shield.”
- Psalm 127:3 “Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward.”
- Psalm 127:4 “As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth.”
- Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”
- Proverbs 16:3 “Commit thy works unto the LORD, and thy thoughts shall be established.”
- Proverbs 16:4 “The LORD hath made all things for himself: yea, even the wicked for the day of evil.”
- Proverbs 19:14 “House and riches are the inheritance of fathers: and a prudent wife is from the LORD.”
- Proverbs 19:21 “There are many devices in a man’s heart; nevertheless the counsel of the LORD, that shall stand.”
- Proverbs 24:1 “Be not thou envious against evil men, neither desire to be with them.”
- Ecclesiastes 3:11 “He hath made every thing beautiful in his time: also he hath set the world in their heart, so that no man can find out the work that God maketh from the beginning to the end.”
- Ecclesiastes 3:14 “I know that, whatsoever God doeth, it shall be for ever: nothing can be put to it, nor any thing taken from it: and God doeth it, that men should fear before him.”
- Ecclesiastes 4:9-12 “Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labour. For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow: but woe to him that is alone when he falleth; for he hath not another to help him up. Again, if two lie together, then they have heat: but how can one be warm alone? And if one prevail against him, two shall withstand him; and a threefold cord is not quickly broken.”
- Ecclesiastes 7:26 “And I find more bitter than death the woman, whose heart is snares and nets, and her hands as bands: whoso pleaseth God shall escape from her; but the sinner shall be taken by her.”

There shall the great owl make her nest, and lay, and hatch, and gather under her shadow: there shall the vultures also be gathered, every one with her mate. Seek ye out of the book of the LORD, and read: no one of these shall fail, none shall want her mate: for my mouth it hath commanded, and his spirit it hath gathered them.”
- Isaiah 40:31 “But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.”
- Hebrews 10:36-37 “For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise. For yet a little while, and he that shall come will come, and will not tarry.”
- James 1:5-6 “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.”
